Important Warning:

I have found the HP's color cartridge number " C1823 "  color cartridge has some serious flaws. More and more I find that the print head is delaminating and causing printing problem and can be difficult to refill because of this problem. Could this be why  HP released the newer cartridges?  Look very closely at the print head before refilling if the print head moves up and down then the print head is going to delaminate. The one on the right is defective the one on the left is ok for refilling.

Tech Tip: Please save at least 3 or more color and black cartridges even if they no longer print. You can use them to reset some of the error codes that may appear after refilling.

Important Tech Tip: HP's New Printers show when the cartridge is low or out of ink. After refilling the ink levels will not go back to full. I have a way you may try and this might reset the ink levels to full.   Please follow example below.

Reset method for the black and color cartridges.  #78, #45, #15

Making the printer think you have inserted a new cartridge.

Turn on the printer. Put the refilled color and black cartridges in the printer. Open the cover and remove both cartridges. Place both cartridges in front of you with the foil contacts facing you and the print head down. With adhesive tape cover the four upper contacts on the left edge first vertical outside row on both cartridges.

Now re-insert the two cartridges and close the cover than re-open the cover after 3 to 4 seconds. Wait for the printer to give you access to the cartridges again. It should park on the left side. Remove the cartridges again and remove the tape from the left side. Now put new tape over the four far right outside vertical row covering the four upper contacts.

Now re-insert the two cartridges and close the cover. Reopen the cover after 3 to 4 seconds. Wait for the printer to give you access to the cartridges and remove them. Remove the tape and carefully clean the contacts. Re-install the cartridges and close the cover. This should reset the ink levels.

Last step is alignment of cartridges. Go to utilities and run alignment.

This may not work for all models.

BLACK CARTRIDGES ( with print heads & bladders) HP has some of the most popular black cartridges  HP 51629A, 51626A and 51645A. The 29A and 26A are bladder cartridges. These cartridges are the most difficult to refill. Especially if you run them out of ink. We have found that using our Snap & Fill tool will generally produce the most success. Some refill kits tell the customer to drill a hole on top of the cartridge and fill it there. Good luck! HP 51645A is one of the best to refill when you follow our instructions. We have a new tool " Snap & Fill " for refilling the 51645A cartridge. Check it out on our new products page.

COLOR CARTRIDGES ( with print heads ) Most color cartridges retain the ink using sponges. We have found through our research that if you drip the ink into the sponge that you will get a better refill. The best time to refill any color cartridge with a print head is when it is half empty. Some of the newer HP printers will show how much ink is in the cartridge through their on screen software. After you refill the cartridge the ink levels will not return to full but you can continue to print. We now have our new " Snap & Vac " tool. This simple tool will draw air out of HP's C1823A, C6578D and 6625A color cartridges and most of the time the cartridge will start printing again.

If you ever get one of this errors after removing the color or black cartridge for refilling follow the steps described. Some of HP's Cartridge will cause this problem because they used the wrong lubrication on the contacts and they become corroded.

Error Codes: cartridge unusable, cartridge not installed correctly,  printer improperly shut down.

To reset the printer install the first old cartridge that you saved and turn the printer off and then on. Follow this step until you have replaced at least three cartridges. This should reset the printer and the error code should go away. Now install the cartridge that showed the error code. This works most of the times.

Refill Tip Using The Snap And Fill.

After removing the cartridge check that you are getting two black lines on a paper towel before refilling. If not the jets are clogged and the cartridge needs to be soak in our head cleaner for about 30 minutes.

Color cartridge refilling problems.

Problem: Color cartridge  HP51641A, C1823D, 6578D, 6625 will not print one or more colors after refilling.

Cause: Color chamber went completely empty before refilling.

Fix: If one or more color chambers went empty and you have try our new " SNAP & VAC " to remove the air trapped in the print head and one or more colors still won't print. Try this last fix, place the print head on some paper towels. Now push some air into the hole if the color chamber that will not print. Ink should flow out of the print head. This method sometimes will restart that color chamber. To avoid this problem try not to let the color cartridge go completely empty.

Problem: Colors don't print correctly after refilling. This can happen sometime when one or more colors seep under the print head and cross contaminate.

Fix: With MS paint or any other program that will let you make large blocks of color. Make one block of each color, yellow, red and blue. Print at least 15 or more copies or until the colors start to print their correct color.

Problem: I filled the color cartridge as the instruction said but it won't print?

Can Not Be Fix: Look at the photos and you will see why. The photo to the right shows that the print head has delaminated. The photo to the left shows a good print head.

Because the cartridge has been run completely dry or tape has been applied over the print head, the print head has delaminated. The thin skin that covers the print head has fallen off. This cartridge will not print...... Time to bite the bullet and buy a new cartridge. Next time refill before it goes empty and don't put tape over the print head. If you want to store your black or color cartridges. Order our storage clips.

WARNING !

When refilling the HP color cartridge # 6578 or any color cartridge please follow our instructions. HP shows color blocks on the label of their color cartridges. They are not the correct color order for refilling. HP would not intentionally miss lead the color order would they?
